What is in Lewisham town centre, how Lewisham Shopping Centre's car park and the market work, and what the council and Landsec are changing.

Lewisham Shopping Centre on Molesworth Street, SE13 7HB, is open seven days a week and says it has over 65 stores and an 842-space car park. Lewisham Market stands in front of it. The council is spending £24 million on the high street, market and library, and Landsec's redevelopment plans for the centre were approved in October 2025.

Lewisham town centre sits between Ladywell and Blackheath, according to the council's Lewisham Central page, and is served by Lewisham station (rail and the DLR). This guide covers what the centre and council publish and does not rank individual shops.

Lewisham Shopping Centre

The centre's about page says it has over 65 stores, is owned and managed by Landsec and has 800+ parking spaces; its homepage gives the address as Molesworth Street, London SE13 7HB. Its opening hours page says it is open seven days a week, with core hours shown on that page and many restaurants and leisure facilities open later. Check the page and individual shops for hours before a special trip.

Parking at the shopping centre

According to the centre's parking page, the multi-storey car park has 842 spaces, opens at 5.30am Monday to Saturday and 10am on Sunday, closes for entry at 8pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm on Sunday, and lets cars exit until midnight. It publishes card-only weekday charges of £1.70 up to one hour, £3.20 for one to two hours, £5.20 for two to four hours, £6.20 for four to six hours and £13 for six to 24 hours. At weekends, up to four hours is £2.50. It lists four 7kW Pod Point EV chargers on lower level 1 (parking charges still apply), 28 Blue Badge bays on the upper levels near the Central Square lifts, eight parent and child bays, and says motorcycles cannot use the car park, pointing to Molesworth Street. It also offers concessionary rates for local businesses, the public and disabled people, with a phone number on that page.

The council runs Molesworth Street car park with 51 spaces, five of them disabled, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6.30pm and Sunday 9am to 1.30pm, according to its car parks page. Charges and zones are in the parking guide, and chargers in the EV charging guide.

Lewisham Market

The council's markets page places the market in front of the shopping centre, open Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. The Monday to Saturday market has around 64 stalls selling fruit and veg, flowers, fabric, clothing, street food, confectionery and household items; the Sunday market sells non-perishable goods. The page says the market began in 1906 and is one of a handful of six-day markets in London. Weekend and farmers' markets elsewhere in the borough are in the markets and events guide.

Getting here

The market page lists many bus routes, including 21, 47, 54, 75, 89, 108, 122, 136, 178, 180, 181, 185, 199, 208, 261, 273, 284, 321, 380, 436, 484 and P4, and rail and DLR from Lewisham. The council's neighbourhood page lists services from Lewisham to Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Victoria and other destinations, and the DLR to Stratford and Bank. See the train stations guide and buses guide.

What is changing?

The council's improvement programme page says £24 million is being spent: £19 million of government funding plus £5 million from the council. It says the High Street updates finished in summer 2025, including new LED lighting, removed street clutter, re-laid pavement, a step-free crossing at Mercia Grove and Plough Bridge Gardens. The market is being transformed, with plans for a new layout, a permanent market house and a canopy. Lewisham Library closed in September 2023 for renovation. The page says construction began in September 2025 but gives two different reopening estimates, so check the council's page for the current date. Some services are at nearby venues (see the libraries and post offices guide).

The council's shopping centre page says its Strategic Planning Committee approved Landsec's redevelopment plans on 16 October 2025. The proposals include more shops, cafes and restaurants, a live music venue, new housing, a street-food market, a park and community spaces. The scheme was also subject to referral to the Mayor of London, so check the council page for its current status before relying on timings.
