Residents of Lewisham town centre, Ladywell, Lee, Hither Green, Brockley and Blackheath use the same borough facilities: the Landmann Way site, the council's bulky waste collection and the public recycling banks. The details below are from the council's pages and can change, so use the links to check before you travel.

Where is the Lewisham tip and when is it open?

The council's Landmann Way Reuse and Recycling Centre page gives the address as the Civic Amenities Site, Landmann Way, London SE14 5RS. That is on the New Cross side of the borough, not in SE13, so allow travel time. As published:

  • Vans, pedestrians and bikes: Sunday to Friday 8am to 3pm (last entry 3pm), and Saturday 8am to 11am (last entry 11am).
  • Cars: Sunday to Friday 8am to 3.30pm, and Saturday 8am to 11.30am.
  • Closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The page says you do not need to book a visit and that use is free.

What do I need to bring?

Lewisham residents need photo ID (a driving licence or passport) and proof of address (a utility bill or bank statement). Vans are allowed up to four visits a year, and hired vans are accepted with rental evidence. Commercial vehicles (with signage, pickups, minibuses or trailers) are not allowed, and there is a 5mph speed limit on site.

What can and can't I take?

The council lists furniture, garden waste, electrical items, metals, textiles, building materials, glass, paper, cardboard, soil and wood among accepted items, with staff discretion applying. It does not accept hazardous waste, paint, solvents, landlord waste, trade waste, plasterboard, turf, car batteries or pallets.

How do I get a bulky item collected instead?

Book through the council's online form from the bulky item collection page. The published charges are £5 for each mattress, £5 for other large items such as carpets, chairs, beds and sofas, and £25 for each fridge or freezer. The fee is non-refundable even if you cancel.

The rules are strict. Leave the items outside your home, stacked neatly at the edge of your property the night before. Flat residents leave items at the front of the building. You do not have to be in, the council does not collect from inside properties, and it will only take the items you told it about. A carpet must be rolled, tied and manageable by two people. Businesses cannot use the service.

Where are the recycling banks near me?

The public recycling banks page says the banks are emptied weekly and that leaving items beside them counts as fly-tipping. Locations listed there include:

  • Small electricals (kettles, toasters, hairdryers, power tools, cables, phones, up to 28cm x 23cm; no batteries, light bulbs or vapes): Blackheath Grove by the post office (SE3 0AU); St Norbert's Road/Turnham Road (SE4 2HH), Brockley Road at Brockley Cross (SE4 2AA) and outside Crofton Park Library (SE4 2AG) in Brockley; under Lee Station bridge on Burnt Ash Hill (SE12 0JE); Longbridge Way at Lewisham High Street (SE13 6NH); and St Stephen's Grove (SE13 7HD).
  • Textiles (clothes, shoes tied together, fabric; no duvets, pillows, sleeping bags or carpets): Blackheath Grove (SE3 0AU), St Norbert's Road/Turnham Road (SE4 2HH), Lee station (SE12 0AD), Longbridge Way (SE13 6NJ) and Clarendon Rise (SE13).

The council page lists no separate textile bank for Ladywell.

What about fly-tipping?

Never leave waste by a bank or on the street. The council says fly-tipping carries unlimited fines and possible prison. See our guide to reporting problems for how to report it.
