Lewisham.co Editorial3 October 2026

Lewisham Council runs a small set of car parks plus a large number of on-street pay-to-park bays and controlled parking zones (CPZs). Parking in Lewisham town centre, Ladywell, Lee, Hither Green, Brockley and Blackheath is mostly on-street, and charges depend on the vehicle. All figures below are as published by the council and may change.

Which council car parks are there?

The council's car parks page lists these, with spaces and hours:

  • Blackheath Grove: 30 spaces, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6.30pm
  • Clarendon Rise/Albion Way: 99 spaces, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6.30pm, Sunday 9am to 1.30pm
  • Molesworth Street: 51 spaces, same hours as Clarendon Rise
  • Slaithwaite Road: 121 spaces, same hours as Clarendon Rise
  • Perry Vale: 92 spaces, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6.30pm (free for up to two hours, per the council's Perry Vale page)
  • Also listed: Beckenham Place Park, Canadian Avenue (Saturdays only), Girton Road, Holbeach Road, Pearcefield Avenue, Thomas Lane and Vanguard Street

The page does not give postcodes or say which neighbourhood each serves. Blackheath Grove shares its name with the Blackheath Grove street the council lists for recycling banks (SE3), and Clarendon Rise appears in the council's SE13 recycling bank list, but check the PayByPhone location code or the council map before setting off. Every car park is paid by PayByPhone. The council warns of QR-code and phone-number scams on payment, so use the PayByPhone app with the location code.

How much does parking cost?

Lewisham charges by vehicle emissions. The council's emissions-based charges page lists on-street hourly rates outside town centres from £1.74 for an electric vehicle (Band 0) up to £4.64 for the highest petrol and Euro 6 diesel band, with older non-compliant diesels charged more (up to £7.26 an hour). It says town centres charge 20 to 50 per cent more. Motorcycles pay £0.84 an hour or £2.10 for the day. Payment is cashless by app, website, phone (0800 546 0610) or text, or cash at PayPoint. The car parks page says most have a 10.5-hour maximum stay and that electric vehicles pay the lowest rate.

How do resident permits work?

In a CPZ you need a permit during controlled hours. The council's permits page lists resident, visitor, disabled resident, carer (issued free for people providing constant care), business and housing estate permits. Apply and renew through the online permit system, and see the council's table of CPZ operating times and permit charges for your street. Loading and unloading is allowed for 20 minutes in resident bays and pay-to-park spaces.

How do I get a Blue Badge?

The Blue Badge page says a badge costs £10 if you are eligible and warns that third-party sites charging £50 are scams. Residents with a council-issued badge can also ask for a disabled bay outside their home.

What if I get a parking ticket?

The parking tickets page explains that you can pay a penalty online or challenge it through the statutory process under the Traffic Management Act 2004. London penalty charges changed on 7 April 2025, and the page does not list the amounts in the text we could read, so check the council for the current figure.

Who do I tell about obstructive parking?

The council's reporting page accepts reports by phone on 020 8787 5397 (option 5), by text to 07385 407496 (start with "Report"), or by email to LewishamParking@NSLServices.co.uk. It covers obstructive parking, footway parking and engine idling, but not moving traffic offences or TfL red routes.
